The passing of time

Starting to say goodbye to Bhutan.  In just a week we’ll end our sojourn in Shangri La and start our bittersweet journey home. Retracing our steps to Tandin Ney Goempa today, we meditated in the temple on our many wonderful and life-changing experiences here, then started down the mountain to hang prayer flags to mark our departure.  Blue, the sky and space, white, the air and wind, red fire, green water and yellow earth, the wind will blow the mantras of each flag to spread good will and compassion throughout all space. The wind over the Lung ta will carry the blessings written on the flags to all sentient beings. The air as it passes over the flags will be purified and sanctified and, as the printed mantras fade and the fabric tatters, it will remind all of the impermanence of existence.
